FRIDAY...surf on north shore in the two foot range and some trade swell.
surf along the north shore will hang around in the 1-2ft range at most spots and possible 3ft sets at very select spots.
a system off the aleutians earlier in the week moved west to east and generated a small swell arriving locally. the fall storms so far this year have been hugging the aleutian islands staying as far to the north as possible yet still pump out swell. this swell is seems to follow suit as the waves on thurdday appeared weak and inconsistent at many locations. the long travel distance and short fetch are generally the cause.
friday will see the swell drop throughout the day and leave hungery afternoon surfers gagging.
strong wave energy is registering at buoy 1 tonight as a result of strong easterlies north of the islands. these winds would give us tradeswell well over the advisary threshold of eight feet on the face, but the energy seems to be missing us to the north.
south shores will be weak...nuff said.
winds will be the usual.

FRIDAY...supposedly surf on the north shore. windswell along eastern shorelines.
a much anticipated northwest swell is due to arrive along the north shore of kauai and oahu. other northern shorelines will hardly know theres a swell due to the size and direction of the swell. the swell was derived from a tropical system that got sucked up near the aleutian islands and became extra-tropical. the system produce some strong winds in the direction of hawaii about four days ago, however the travel distance and short fetch will likely prove this swell smaller than expected. as of this write up there long period wave energy hasn't shown up at buoy 1 indicating that the swell is a little late and this is generally a sign that the swell may also be smaller than forecasted.
the call is for swell by morning in the solid 2-4ft range at most spots ans possible 5ft sets at select spots.
trades will be blowing so check the usual suspects.

THURSDAY...surf on the rise for northern shores.
a new swell should build out of the northwest by the afternoon in the solid three foot range at select reefs. a fairly strong storm system formed near the western end of the aleutian island chain and moved slowly eastward from saturday until monday. the system had strong winds near 50mph on sunday aiming swell in the direction of hawaii. the distance the swell need to travel, however, is close to 2000nm which will significantly lower waveheights, although there should still be plenty of power to produce a solid five foot swell at select spots early friday.
at the time of this writing there is little in the way of energy registering at buoy and nothing registering at the waimea buoy.
southern shore are going to see a slight increase out of the south, but who really cares.
eastern shores will continue with rough trade wind swell near advisary level. strong winds upstream are creating optimum windswell conditions along eastern shores. i know i sampled.
winds will be trades in the 10-20mph.

TUESDAY...trade wind swell to top surf heights.
currently strong and gusty trades have entered the weather picture here in hawaii as an area of high pressure has anchored itself north of hawaii. this scenerio generally produces high windswell along eastern shores. recent buoy observations at the kailua buoy are suggesting rough and choppy wind waves with 9sec periods and surf heights of near four feet on the local scale. this should continue for tuesday with choppy conditions and rough seas along eastern shores.
northern shores will be virtually flat as there is no real swell arriving there until thursday.
southern shores may see some leftover two footers from the long lived swell from the weekend. another swell is due to arrive on wednesday.

SATURDAY...waves on the north shore to come up and southern shores to drop a bit.
a new west-northwest swell has arrived and is currently registering singnificant energy on buoy 1. the energy registering there is showing longer wave periods and stronger energy than predicted hence the swell will likely be larger and last longer.
surf along the north shore will be in the 2-4ft range for saturday with a slight westerly component.
southern shores will hange in the 2-3ft range.
winds will be the normal trades.

finally some relief
THURDAY...plenty of waves for the day as both northern and southern shores will produce.
a new northwest swell is due to arrive along northern shores that was produced sunday through monday. the system hugged the aleutian islands and produced winds near 40mph 330deg relative to hawaii. given the travel distance of near 2000nm this swell will produce weak surf by north shore standards in the 2-3ft range with longer lulls that usual. the waimea buoy is registering slightly longer wave periods in the 11sec range that are indicative of the arrival of this swell.
southern shores will also be on the way up for thursday as a new south swell starts to fill in. currently the lanai buoy and the kewalo platform are both registering long period wave energy near 20sec. this is a sharp jump from earlier readings in the day and this is the result of the forerunners from this swell. thursday will see the rise and peak of the swell nearing the four foot catagory on the local scale.
this swell is the result of a powerful system east of new zealand about five days ago that produced winds near 50mph aiming slightly east of hawaii. this swell should hold until the weekend at which point another swell from roughly the same direction should fill in.
winds will be the normal trades.

FRIDAY...surf will drop on both the north and the south shores.
both swells appeared to have lost significant energy over the last day. recent buoy readings along both shores are showing smaller waveheights and shorter wave periods.
tomorrow will 1-2ft max on both the north and south shores with smooth conditions in the AM.

THURSDAY...surf should be small but plentiful on both the north and south shorelines.
recent buoy observations are indicating that there is curretly swell registering on both the northern and southern buoys. the waimea buoy and the kailua buoy are both showind a small north swell from roughly 0-10deg with 9-11sec periods and open ocean waveheights of near 3ft. this should easily tranduce into small but ridable surf at select north facing reefs along the north shore.
the lanai buoy is also showing promise with a newly arriving swell out of 190deg with 12-16sec wave periods and opne ocean waveheights of near 3ft. south shores will be near head high with fun surf at the usual suspects. conditions should be good as the winds are going to be light in the morning.
