WEDNESDAY...surf will be on the way down for the north shore and remain fairly consistent along south shores in the 3ft range.
the current north-northwest swell will be on the way out and the north-northeast will slowly drop.
the north-northeast swell that was generated over the past weekend and from locally strong trades may drop slightly and may receive a possible boost from the northeasterly direction. the northwesterly swell that was generated from a system in the far northwest pacific is showing a drop in energy as of 5pm. surf along the north shore will be in the 2-4ft range in the morning and slowly decline throughout the day.
southern shores are seeing from remote sources east of new zealand that was generated about a week ago. there have been severl sources of swell over the last week and south swells may overlap as a result for the next week.
look for 2-3ft surf along southern shores, 2-4ft surf along eastern shores ans 2-4ft surf along northern shores. winds should be moderate trades.

THURSDAY...surf on the way down for thursday.
the current north-northwesterly swell that has been affecting northern shores has used up most of its fuel and is likely to start to drop. the current swell was generated by an elongated low pressure system north of the islands saturday into sunday. the system set up a long and wide fetch aimed in the direction of hawaii for well over 24hrs. winds over the fetch attained speeds of only 35mph, therefore, surf reached moderate heights relative to north shore standards.
surf from this source should drop throughout the day in both size and frequency. winds locally are beginning to gain strength as the low pressure to the north has dissapated and moved east.
look for 2-5ft surf with windy conditions in the morning.

MONDAY...new swell along northern shores.
a new swel is likely to fill in along northern shores on moday. the swell was generated by a large yet fairly disorganized area of winds north-northwest of hawaii. an area of winds stretching from the aleutian islands to within 1000nm of hawaii formed on saturday. although the winds attained speeds of only 30-35mph, they covered an area extending well over 1200nm. this elongated area of winds will help produce a more powerful and consistent swell than would usually be expected from winds at this speed. wave period will not reach into the usual 17-20sec periods as the winds will not have enough strength.
for monday look for surf in the 2-4ft solid range with the odd larger set. winds should be light and allow for smooth and glassy conditions.

warm up 10/18/07
cracked it and was also amazed at all the others in the race for a real wave. ended up at rightovers, which after looking at all the other spots looked like it was the place to be. glassy 3-5ft solid and A-framing deep out the back. plenty of people, but if you knew how to surf that place you'd score. after being skunked with one my friends for years we came out stoked and uner the impression that we aren't a jinx to one another.
FRIDAY...surf to drop a bit from thursday's peak on northern shores.
thursday saw surf in the 3-5ft range with the odd larger set at select locations. the swell had definite north component in it, but not enough to make the best north facing reef do its thing. the swell was generated by system that was aimed north and east of hawaii, however the storm was powerful enough to give hawaii a good warm up swell.
friday will see this swell drop and a bit more and most likely swing more northerly. look for surf in the 2-4ft range in the morning with good conditions.

TUESDAY...a small boost on the north shore.
a small swell will liklely fill in overnight and greet dawn patrolers with 2-3ft surf in the morning. a more likely scenerio is that the north shore may be really small and barely ridable, at least from the latest buoy information and forecast models from wavewatch 3.
a storm in far north pacific hugged the aleutian island chain and moves west to east creating a moderate swell aimed primarily at north america. hawaii lies on the southwestern fringe of the wave swath and therefore may receive side scraps due to the angular dispresal effect that waves generally flow with.
for tuesday look for small surf with possible clean conditions. waves may be too small to ride or possible 2-4ft as theses swells are very hard to predict.

SUNDAY...small surf along north, west, and south shores as there are no significant swells predicted.
trade winds have produced moderate sized rough surf along eastern shorelines that is likely to continue into monday.
